Undergraduate Thesis - Feasibility of Rainwater Harvesting in Paarden Island
The overall aim of this research is to create models that will determine whether or not the implementation of rainwater harvesting systems in an industrial area will be feasible. The research will quantify the amount of rainwater that can be collected from various surfaces. Possible sources of contamination will be identified to help make a decision of whether to implement treatment processes for collected rainwater before it is stored and used. Different methods will be identified to assess how the cost of rainwater harvesting systems can be recuperated. The impact of rainwater harvesting systems will effectively be tested against the current municipal water systems. The results of this thesis will hopefully help to strengthen future debates on rainwater harvesting in the City of Cape Town.
